What is Arrow-Roxithromycin used for?

Arrow-Roxithromycin tablets 300mg are used to treat mild to moderate infections caused by certain susceptible types of bacteria in different areas of the body, including:
  • upper respiratory tract infections like pharyngitis tonsillitis and sinusitis
  • lower respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia
  • skin infections like impetigo and soft tissue infections
  • dental infections
  • sexually transmitted disease like non-gonoccocal urethritis

How does Arrow-Roxithromycin work?

Arrow-Roxithromycin tablets 300mg contain Roxithromycin, an antibiotic belonging to the macrolides group of antibiotics. Arrow-Azithromycin prevents the spread of bacterial infection by blocking bacterial protein synthesis so that the bacteria cannot produce proteins that are needed for its growth. This action stops the growth of the bacteria and relieves symptoms of the bacterial infection, which include inflammation and pain. Arrow- Roxithromycin tablets 300mg are effective against several susceptible bacteria including Streptococcus, Staphylococcus and Haemophilus but do not work against viruses, which use a different mechanism to grow and replicate.

What does Arrow-Roxithromycin contain?

Arrow-Roxithromycin tablets 300mg contains the active ingredient roxithromycin, an antibiotic belonging to the macrolides group of antibiotics. They also contain low substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose (hyprolose), colloidal anhydrous silica, povidone, purified talc, maize starch, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, anhydrous glucose, titanium dioxide and propylene glycol.

Arrow-Roxithromycin tablets 300mg contain roxithromycin, an antibiotic used to treat mild to moderate infections caused by certain susceptible types of bacteria in different areas of the body, including, upper respiratory tract infections like pharyngitis, tonsillitis and sinusitis, lower respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, skin infections like impetigo, soft tissue infections, dental infections and sexually transmitted disease like non-gonoccocal urethritis. Roxithromycin in Arrow-Roxithromycin tablets 300mg works by blocking bacterial protein synthesis and stops the growth of the bacteria. This relieves symptoms of the bacterial infection, which include inflammation and pain.

What are the side effects of Arrow-Roxithromycin?

The most commonly reported side effects when taking Arrow-Roxithromycin include gastrointestinal tract symptoms like diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting cramping abdominal pain and flatulence, also headache and dizziness, skin rash, altered taste, oral thrush (white, furry, sore tongue and mouth).

When should Arrow-Roxithromycin not be used?

You should not use Arrow-Roxithromycin tablets 300mg if you:
  • are allergic to roxithromycin, any other macrolide or any ingredients in Arrow-Roxithromycin
  • are pregnant or are breastfeeding
  • have kidney or liver disease
  • are taking medicines that interact with Arrow-Roxithromycin, including the immunosuppressant cyclosporin, digoxin for heart failure, the anticoagulant warfarin, antacids for indigestion, ergot derivatives such as ergotamine for migraines, the anticonvulsant midazolam used for surgery premedication.

What medications interact with Arrow-Roxithromycin?

Several medications interact with Arrow-Roxithromycin and should either not be taken while you are taking Arrow-Roxithromycin or only after discussion and instruction from your doctor:
  • Drugs that cause a serious reaction with Arrow-Roxithromycin: ergot derivatives such as ergotamine for migraines,
  • Drugs that affect Arrow-Roxithromycin: antacids for indigestion (should be taken1 or 2 hours after)
  • Drugs that are affected by Arrow-Roxithromycin: the anticoagulant warfarin, digoxin for heart failure, the immunosuppressant cyclosporin, the anticonvulsant midazolam used for surgery premedication.

How should Arrow-Roxithromycin be taken?

You should take your Arrow-Roxithromycin tablets 300mg swallowed whole with a glass of water on an empty stomach 15 minutes before a meal or at least three hours after. You should take your Roxithromycin tablets 300mg at the same time each day. The dose you take and for how long depends on what you are being treated for and your doctors recommendations. You should continue to take your Arrow-Roxithromycin tablets 300mg for as long as recommended by your doctor, which may be several days or weeks, depending on the infection. Always finish your course of tablets even if you feel better, if not, the infection may not clear up completely or your symptoms may return.
