GENERAL INFORMATION

What is Ivermectin & Praziquantel used for?

Ivermectin 2mg + Praziquantel Tablets 50mg are indicated for the treatment and control of mixed parasite infestations in dogs and cats, including gastrointestinal nematodes and cestodes.

This combination provides broad-spectrum antiparasitic activity effective against:

  • Roundworms
  • Hookworms
  • Whipworms
  • Tapeworms

The product is suitable for routine deworming and parasite management in dogs and cats.

How does Ivermectin & Praziquantel work?

Praziquantel

Praziquantel acts primarily against cestodes (tapeworms) by increasing the permeability of the parasite's membranes to calcium ions, leading to muscle contraction, paralysis, and death of the parasite. The parasite is subsequently disintegrated and eliminated from the host.

Ivermectin

Ivermectin, a macrocyclic lactone, binds selectively to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels in the nerve and muscle cells of parasites. This results in increased chloride ion influx, hyperpolarization, paralysis, and death of susceptible parasites.

The dual-action mechanism ensures effective parasite control and therapeutic efficacy.

What does Ivermectin & Praziquantel contain?

Each Uncoated Tablet Contains:

  • Praziquantel – 50 mg
  • Ivermectin-2mg
  • Excipients

What are the side effects of Ivermectin & Praziquantel?

  • This product is generally safe when used as directed. However, in some animals, gastrointestinal disturbances such as vomiting, lethargy, or reduced appetite may occur. In rare cases, sensitivity to ivermectin may be observed, resulting in signs such as ataxia, mydriasis, hypersalivation, depression, or tremors.
  • These effects are usually transient but may require veterinary attention. If any adverse reactions are observed, discontinue use immediately and consult a veterinarian.
  • Overdose may result in serious toxicity, particularly due to ivermectin sensitivity. In cases of overdose, immediate veterinary attention is required and supportive treatment should be initiated.

Contraindications

  • Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to ivermectin, praziquantel, or any component of the formulation.
  • Use with extreme caution in Collies and Collie-type breeds due to possible ivermectin sensitivity.

Special Warnings

  • Dogs with the MDR1 gene mutation may be more sensitive to ivermectin. This mutation is known to occur in breeds such as the Australian Shepherd and English Shepherd. As ivermectin has a wide safety margin when used at the recommended dose for heartworm prevention, administration should still be undertaken according to the advice of a veterinarian.
  • Use only as directed based on veterinary advice.

Drug Interactions

  • Do not administer with other medications unless advised by a veterinarian, as adverse interactions may occur.
