Dermol Cream General information

What is Dermol Cream used for?

Dermol cream is a topical skin cream used to treat several moderate to severe skin and scalp conditions, such as dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, lichen planus (chronic itchy skin of unknown origin) and discoid lupus erythematosus (recurring scaly rash). Dermol cream relieves symptoms such as itching, redness, dryness, crusting, scaling and discomfort.

How does Dermol Cream work?

Dermol cream contains the very potent antiinflammaory corticosteroid clobetasol propionate 0.05% that blocks the production of a hormone-like substance called prostaglandin, which causes inflammation. This reduces symptoms of inflammatory skin conditions that do not respond satisfactorily to less active steroids.

What does Dermol Cream contain?

The active ingredient of Dermol Cream is the corticosteroid clobetasol propionate 0.05%. Dermol cream also contains also contains propylene glycol, beeswax white, cetostearyl alcohol, glyceryl monostearate, glyceryl stearate/ PEG stearate, citric acid anhydrous, sodium citrate dihydrate, chlorocresol and purified water.

What is the difference between Dermol cream and Dermol Ointment?

Dermol cream can be easily rubbed into your skin without being greasy and is for skin that is not too dry. Dermol ointment is better for dry scaly skin as it contains a mixture of oil and water that helps keep moisture in and preventing evaporation.

Dermol Cream for treating itchy skin

Itchy skin is a symptom of several skin conditions, like dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis; if untreated your skin can become sore and inflamed, and cause a skin rash. You can apply Dermol Cream directly to the affected area of skin to help relieve your symptoms.

What are the side effects of Dermol Cream?

Dermol Cream is generally well tolerated but may cause side effects, including itching, burning and irritation of the areas of skin that you have applied the cream. Other side effects include changes in the skin such as thinning or colour changes and blood vessels that are close to the skin surface, becoming more visible.

How should Dermol Cream be used?

Dermol Cream should be used once or twice daily only for a short time, until symptoms improve, as recommended by your doctor or pharmacist. You should not use it for longer than recommended. Clean the infected area thoroughly and allow it to dry, then gently rub in the Dermol Cream until most of it disappears. Use a small amount on a fingertip, just enough to cover the affected area. You should always wash your hands after applying the medication and make sure you don’t get any in your eyes, nose or mouth. Do not apply dressings, bandages, cosmetics, lotions, or other skin medications to the area being treated with Dermol Cream unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

How long should you use Dermol Cream?

Dermol cream is intended for short-term treatment and you should use it only for as long as your doctor recommends. You should see an improvement in your skin condition within a few days or weeks, depending on the severity of the condition.

When should Dermol Cream not be used?

You should not use Dermol cream if you:
  • you are allergic to clobetasol or any other ingredient in Dermol cream
  • your skin is broken or infected
  • you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding.

What to do if you miss a dose of Dermol Cream

Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one.

How should Dermol Cream be stored?

Store Dermol below 25°C (77°F) and keep it out of direct sunlight. Heat and direct sunlight can reduce the effectiveness of this medicine.
